It is vital to develop and implement a conventional wayfinding approach, and there are various factors to consider while planning a wayfinding system. For example, it is important to identify that you cannot always do everything you want, thus prioritising some sections of a given wayfinding route will be necessary and should be completed at the start of the project. This will eventually help to focus the project and is often the first step in creating a well-structured wayfinding trail.
La Mer Dubai is a modern world-class beachside resort where you can dine, shop, and unwind. The design of the wayfinding signage system for La Mer was a complex task because the property is located across 9.5 million square feet of existing and reclaimed land and incorporates minimalist and modern architectural elements.
From the beginning till the end, the wayfinding design must live up to this one-of-a-kind event. Designers tackled this project with recyclable materials and reused products, thinking in an entirely different manner to create a distinctive wayfinding design and branding system.
The major challenge, however, was to incorporate graphic components throughout the entire process. With the assistance of Meraas' Studio M, designers were able to create a one-of-a-kind art form for the La Mer wayfinding system.
The final outcome was exactly what was envisioned. The wayfinding system not only complemented the mood of La Mer but also distinguished it from the crowd. The project is a success due to the sheer effort everyone put in to make this place a reality.
